Dig the eldritch letterforms, man. Dean Stockwell as Wilbur Whateley making the High Sign on the cover of Les Baxter’s soundtrack album, 1970. That gesture, incidentally, goes back a long way.
• If you have an abundance of interstellar credits burning a hole in your stillsuit then you may be interested in bidding for the original of the book commonly known as The Dune Bible, the complete set of storyboards by Jean “Moebius” Giraud, together with designs by other artists for Alejandro Jodorowsky’s abandoned feature film. I keep hoping someone might turn this into an animated feature, something like René Laloux’s Time Masters but on a grander scale and with better animation (hello, Japan). 46 pages of scans from a limited printing of the book may be seen here.

Re Stockwell: Gotta say that the Roger Ebert site’s obit was a great precision of his life. Have to respect surviving being a child star — more so at MGM — and having a great work ethic. When the acting thing hit a wall, becoming a real estate broker isn’t beneath him because one has to work. Too, elided is that taking the Quantum Leap gig may have looked strange after that high profile cameo in Blue Velvet; OTOH, the former paid bills far better than the latter, which is to say when one wants to be a working actor, the former was that.
A fine, if not great, life.
I used to think being an actor from your earliest years must be a strange thing but then it isn’t if that’s all the life you’ve known. Quantum Leap seemed like a perfect role for Stockwell when he was in so many odd, interesting things.
