• RIP Richard Horowitz, a composer and musician whose soundtrack work makes the headlines but who I’ve always known best via his appearances on albums by Jon Hassell and others, and his collaborations with his partner, Sussan Deyhim. Majoun (1996) is my favourite among the Horowitz and Deyhim albums but it’s one of those releases that received little attention at the time and hasn’t been reissued since.   1. Surprised to see no mention of Horowitz’s Eros in Arabia which is a lovely record. I’ve long felt a mild disappointment that he didn’t continue to release his own solo work though the collaborations with Deyhim are also great. Not so sure about his work with Hassell on Surgeon of…, probably my least favourite and imo the least interesting or inspired of the trumpeter’s albums.

  2. I just bought Eros In Arabia at Bandcamp, after holding out for years in hopes they’d release a CD version. I no longer hope for such things even though Discogs is filled to the brim with people complaining about their noisy new slabs of vinyl.

    I chose the Surgeon… track over Power Spot because it’s closer to Horowitz’s own compositions.

  3. Yes, I agree that it’s frustrating when there’s no CD version. It’s my preferred medium. I’ve made do with the lossless streamed version. TBH I’ve never really loved Power Spot either, but am very happy re-listening to the Deyhim collaborations instead.
