  1. Strangely enough this doesn’t make it into 1001 Books you must read before you Die

    but it is in The Modern Library: the 200 Best novels in English since 1950 by Carmen Callil and colm Toibin

    His version of the American past as a sort of hell has almost no precedent in American narrative; his refusal to offer meaning and moral shape to his story make this novel, and his other work, original and disturbing

    Another title to add to my To Read list.

  2. Read it now! Heh. I was wondering if it made that 1001 Books list. The fact that it doesn’t is scandalous; I wonder why? Easily one of the best books I’ve ever read. I’m starting on his Border Trilogy next.

  3. As soon as I finish City of Saints and Madmen (I’m just starting on the Amergris Glossary now) I’ll start on this one.
