The Mikiphone above is a Swiss &#8220;pocket phonograph&#8221; from 1924. There&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.core77.com\/blog\/object_culture\/more_portable_record_players_the_1950s_to_80s_19055.asp\" target=\"_blank\">follow-up post<\/a> with examples from later decades including a rather dubious (and not very successful) &#8220;Highway hi-fi phonograph&#8221; from Chrysler. For more recent novelties, try Kelli Anderson&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/kellianderson.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/a-paper-record-player\/\" target=\"_blank\">paper record player<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Back at Record Store Day, <em>The Guardian<\/em> sent two men <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/music\/2011\/apr\/14\/strangest-record-shops-in-britain\" target=\"_blank\">in search of British record shops<\/a> and included Manchester on their list of stops. Kudos for finding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beatinrhythm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Beatin&#8217; Rhythm<\/a>, a great place for psychedelic albums, but I&#8217;d have headed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingbeerecords.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">King Bee<\/a> instead of Sifters.
