Lewin made a number of respectably arty films during the Forties and Fifties but <em>Dorian Gray<\/em> has always seemed the best to me, even if I am biased towards the story.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image1215\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/dorianbefore.jpg\" alt=\"dorianbefore.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The film was shot in black and white but views of the painting were shown in colour. For the final view of Dorian&#8217;s decayed portrait he commissioned the hyper-real artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cornerstonemag.com\/imaginarium\/features\/albright.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ivan Albright<\/a> (1897\u20131983) whose shockingly grotesque picture (below) provides a memorable climax to the film.
