{"id":8747,"date":"2011-01-28T01:16:05","date_gmt":"2011-01-28T01:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/?p=8747"},"modified":"2012-04-18T16:58:12","modified_gmt":"2012-04-18T15:58:12","slug":"deutsche-kunst-und-dekoration-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2011\/01\/28\/deutsche-kunst-und-dekoration-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration #5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/dkd05-01.jpg\" alt=\"dkd05-01.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Continuing the delve into back numbers of <em>Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration<\/em>, the German periodical of art and decoration. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/details\/deutschekunstund05kochuoft\" target=\"_blank\">Volume 5<\/a> covers the period from October 1899 to March 1900, and the Art Nouveau style is in full flower at this point, as it was across most of Europe. This is also the place at which the journal becomes so laden with impressive design work that it&#8217;s impossible to easily do justice to over 300 pages of contents. Anyone wanting to see more is encouraged to download the whole thing as either page scans or a PDF. As before I&#8217;ve tended to concentrate on the graphic material but this issue also features more lavish interior designs, a range of jewellery, and ponderous monumental architecture including proposals for some of Germany&#8217;s many <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/Bismarck_tower\" target=\"_blank\">Bismarck Towers<\/a>. Examples follow below. There&#8217;ll be more <em>DK&amp;D<\/em> next week when we take a trip to the Exposition Universelle in Paris.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/dkd05-02.jpg\" alt=\"dkd05-02.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2008\/02\/03\/the-art-of-sascha-schneider-1870-1927\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sascha Schneider<\/a> was Karl May&#8217;s favourite illustrator and one of the few openly gay artists in Germany at the time.
