{"id":861,"date":"2006-08-26T03:09:17","date_gmt":"2006-08-26T02:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/?p=861"},"modified":"2008-07-18T21:34:35","modified_gmt":"2008-07-18T20:34:35","slug":"the-journal-of-ottoman-calligraphy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2006\/08\/26\/the-journal-of-ottoman-calligraphy\/","title":{"rendered":"The Journal of Ottoman Calligraphy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/calligrapher.blogsome.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/ottoman.jpg\" alt=\"ottoman.jpg\" id=\"image860\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Seeing as we&#8217;re living through a period of recurrent paranoia and hysteria, with <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/uk\/4789593.stm\" target=\"_blank\">a whole state of matter being declared dangerous<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/england\/5267884.stm\" target=\"_blank\">with people falling under suspicion for not being white<\/a>, and with events like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracynow.org\/article.pl?sid=06\/08\/21\/1348224#transcript\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> a daily occurrence, one can only wonder how we endured <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Provisional_IRA_campaign_1969?1997\" target=\"_blank\">thirty years of deadly IRA terrorism<\/a> in this country without panic in the streets or the nation turning into a police state.<\/p>\n<p>Useful then to be reminded of some of the many positive aspects of Arab culture which is exactly what the <a href=\"http:\/\/calligrapher.blogsome.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Journal of Ottoman Calligraphy<\/a> is devoted to.
