Coincidence or some cephalopodic zeitgeist thing? You decide. BibliOdyssey has a fine set of <a href=\"http:\/\/bibliodyssey.blogspot.com\/2010\/09\/cephalopoda.html\" target=\"_blank\">natural history plates<\/a> showing various squid and octopuses while Sci-Fi-O-Rama presents a small collection of illustrations by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sci-fi-o-rama.com\/2010\/09\/07\/barnaby-ward-4\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barnaby Ward<\/a>. If it&#8217;s boys and tentacles you want (and who doesn&#8217;t?), then there&#8217;s always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2007\/06\/16\/the-art-of-nobeast\/\" target=\"_blank\">the art of NoBeast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/ward.jpg\" alt=\"ward.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Untitled drawing by Barnaby Ward.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ernst Haeckel remains my favourite tentacle illustrator, and the octopus below is one of his examples from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/origomi\/sets\/72157601323433758\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Kunstformen der Natur<\/em><\/a> (1899\u20131904). Somewhere (although Cthulhu knows where) I have a drawing by Hal Foster from one of his <em>Prince Valiant<\/em> strips showing a sinister octopus in a pit which is almost a match for Haeckel&#8217;s, and may even have been based on it. If I ever find it again I&#8217;ll post it here.
