{"id":7670,"date":"2010-09-03T02:53:02","date_gmt":"2010-09-03T01:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/?p=7670"},"modified":"2010-09-03T02:53:02","modified_gmt":"2010-09-03T01:53:02","slug":"salon-futura-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2010\/09\/03\/salon-futura-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Salon Futura #1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salonfutura.net\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/salon-futura.jpg\" alt=\"salon-futura.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a pleasure this week seeing my 1999 portrait of Cthulhu&#8217;s rotting domicile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/haunter\/rlyeh1.html\" target=\"_blank\">R&#8217;lyeh<\/a>, used as the cover image for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salonfutura.net\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Salon Futura<\/em><\/a>, a new online magazine edited by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheryl-morgan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cheryl Morgan<\/a>. Cheryl describes <em>SF<\/em> as &#8220;a new and hopefully somewhat different magazine devoted to the discussion of science fiction, fantasy and other forms of speculative literature.&#8221; Among the contents there&#8217;s a podcast interview with <a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.roosevelt.edu\/wolfe\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gary K Wolfe<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nnedi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nnedi Okorafor<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.verbeat.org\/blogs\/pwt\/\" target=\"_blank\">F\u00e1bio Fernandes<\/a> (the latter is a contributor to the steampunk book I&#8217;m currently designing for Tachyon); there are video interviews with writers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moxyland.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lauren Beukes<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/chinamieville.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">China Mi\u00e9ville<\/a>, and the <em>Guardian<\/em>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/profile\/samjordison\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Jordison<\/a> writes an appraisal of EL Doctorow&#8217;s 1994 novel <em>The Waterworks<\/em> (about New York City&#8217;s minatory <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Crotonreservoir42ndstnyc.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Croton Reservoir<\/a>) which stimulated my interest enough to make me want to search out the book. And speaking of minatory architecture, {feuilleton} approves of the presence of Taschen&#8217;s fat volume of Piranesi works spied on China Mi\u00e9ville&#8217;s bookshelf.
