There don&#8217;t seem to be many devices which fit the label unfortunately but this pair are interesting enough. Yee Ling Wan&#8217;s clock is relatively cheap (around \u00a370) compared to yesterday&#8217;s antiques and can be purchased from a number of online outlets.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/ghost2.jpg\" alt=\"ghost2.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Ghost Clock by Wendell Castle (1985).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wendell Castle&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/americanart.si.edu\/exhibitions\/online\/renwick25\/castle.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Ghost Clock<\/em><\/a> isn&#8217;t a timepiece at all but is a solid block of mahogany carved and laminated to give a <em>trompe l&#8217;oeil<\/em> impression of a sheeted grandfather clock. The wrapped object and the confounding of expectations reminds me of Magritte who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moma.org\/collection\/browse_results.php?criteria=O%3AAD%3AE%3A3692&amp;page_number=4&amp;template_id=1&amp;sort_order=1\" target=\"_blank\">may have been an inspiration<\/a>.
