He also produced a notorious piece in 1887 entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artrenewal.org\/asp\/database\/image.asp?id=1935\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Gorilla Carrying off a Woman<\/em><\/a>, a precursor of <em>King Kong<\/em> and all the other rampaging apes of later pulp fiction.<\/p>\n<p>His <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/toah\/hd\/exot\/hob_2003.280.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Lizard<\/em><\/a> ceramic (also 1887) is untypical which is a shame, I&#8217;d liked to have seen more in this style.
