{"id":21984,"date":"2022-09-10T19:27:05","date_gmt":"2022-09-10T18:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/?p=21984"},"modified":"2022-09-10T19:27:05","modified_gmt":"2022-09-10T18:27:05","slug":"weekend-links-638","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2022\/09\/10\/weekend-links-638\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekend links 638"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/feherlofia.jpg\" alt=\"feherlofia.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 After writing about Hungarian animator Marcell Jankovics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2022\/01\/05\/three-short-films-by-marcell-jankovics\/\">back in January<\/a>, I left a comment expressing the hope that Arrow or Eureka might give us a Region B blu-ray of <em>Son of the White Mare<\/em> (aka <em>Feh\u00e9rl\u00f3fia<\/em>), Jankovics&#8217;s &#8220;psychedelic&#8221; animated feature from 1982. Fast-forward nine months to <a href=\"https:\/\/eurekavideo.co.uk\/movie\/son-of-the-white-mare-feherlofia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eureka&#8217;s announcement<\/a> that they&#8217;ll be doing exactly this in November. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nl1MZ3x0sNE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Watch the trailer<\/a>. The release will include some of the director&#8217;s short films plus his first feature, <em>Johnny Corncob<\/em> (1973), a historical tale presented in the &#8220;groovy&#8221; style (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2021\/03\/04\/the-groovy-look\/\">previously<\/a>) popularised by <em>Yellow Submarine<\/em>. If idle wishes can be granted so easily then I&#8217;ll hope again that Eureka might do the same for Ren\u00e9 Laloux&#8217;s second and third animated features, the Moebius-designed <em>Time Masters<\/em> (1982) (made in the same studio as <em>Son of the White Mare<\/em>) and the Caza-designed <em>Gandahar<\/em> (1987). Fingers crossed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;I don\u2019t think anybody copies me, but Harmony Korine, Todd Solondz, Bruno Dumont, Gaspar No\u00e9, I like those kinds of directors. They\u2019re sometimes not funny at all. They\u2019re very serious and eerily melodramatic.
