It\u2019s one of the world\u2019s greatest actors who understood the power of small gestures.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/thequietus.com\/articles\/31915-film-get-carter-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jah Wobble<\/a> enthusing about Roy Budd, Michael Caine, and Mike Hodges&#8217; baleful revenge drama, <em>Get Carter<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One of the BFI&#8217;s Halloween releases this year will be <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.bfi.org.uk\/the-ballad-of-tam-lin-blu-ray.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Ballad of Tam Lin<\/em><\/a> (1971), the blu-ray debut of a cult film that blends folk horror with modish melodrama. Direction by Roddy McDowall, music by Pentangle, and a cast that includes Ava Gardner and Ian McShane.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 New from A Year In The Country: <a href=\"https:\/\/ayearinthecountry.co.uk\/the-a-year-in-the-country-cathode-ray-and-celluloid-hinterlands-book-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Cathode Ray And Celluloid Hinterlands<\/em><\/a>, a book exploring weird film and TV, not all of which is from the over-ploughed folk-horror furrows.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The whole notion of the Diggers kind of evolved out of the anarchism thing. And also there was more than a little social conscience. Because, by now, in \u201866, people started to come to the Haight Ashbury from all over. And that was when, in \u201866, it was still, really\u2026 Before the \u201cSummer of Love,\u201d it <em>really was<\/em> the Summer of Love. The \u201cSummer of Love\u201d [in 1967] was Life Magazine\u2019s version. That\u2019s what created the homeless on the streets and all that shit, because so many people came with absolutely no understanding of what they were about.<\/p>\n<p>The role of the Diggers in this period was an outlaw, romantic, feed-the-people, anarchist, \u2018Who\u2019s in charge?\u2014YOU ARE\u2019, that kind of thing. That line in <em>Apocalypse Now<\/em> when he gets to the bridge and the little string of Christmas lights are hanging and he gets to one guy who\u2019s guarding one end of the bridge and he says, Who\u2019s in charge here? He says, I thought you were. And that\u2019s so true. That is so true. Then Grogan, whenever anyone would ask, where\u2019s Emmett Grogan\u2026 anyone could say \u201cI\u2019m Emmett Grogan.\u201d So you could deflect a lot of shit.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/diggersdocs.home.blog\/2022\/07\/26\/how-the-deal-really-went-down-behind-the-scenes-with-the-san-francisco-diggers-harvey-kornspan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harvey Korspan<\/a> of the San Francisco Diggers talking to Jay Babcock in another installment of Jay\u2019s verbal history of the hippie anarchists<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/70sscifiart.tumblr.com\/post\/691497093520621568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buckminster Fuller patented the geodesic dome on June 29, 1954.
