When I read it being used in <em>The New York Times<\/em>, I think, &#8216;It\u2019s their word and they can fucking have it all they want.&#8217; I will never use &#8216;queer.&#8217; It\u2019s an ugly word.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/thelandmag.com\/theland-interview-john-rechy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Rechy<\/a>, still active at the age of 90, talking to Jeff Weiss about hustling, social opprobrium, and his pioneering books.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;At a time when we are being constantly told that humanity is destroying the planet, it is somehow comforting to see nature not merely outlasting, but triumphing over humanity\u2019s constructions\u2014as nature does in many of Piranesi\u2019s <em>Views of Rome<\/em>.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/thecritic.co.uk\/issues\/december-january-2022\/studio-piranesi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alasdair Palmer<\/a> on Piranesi&#8217;s peerless renderings of Roman ruins.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;The magical aspect of <em>Get Back<\/em> is its total refusal to adhere to the standard tropes of music documentaries. There are no talking heads commenting on the Beatles\u2019 greatness, no continual barrage of quick edits and highlights.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/4columns.org\/dayal-geeta\/the-beatles-get-back\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Geeta Dayal<\/a> on Peter Jackson&#8217;s resurrection of the Fab Four.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But men are not traditionally meant to be objects of art. \u201cMen look at women,\u201d John Berger wrote. \u201cWomen watch themselves being looked at.\u201d When men look at men, however, they break rules. \u201cI didn\u2019t set out to be radical,\u201d says Miller. \u201cBut I was at a fair and I had a huge nude on a stand by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2012\/09\/06\/the-art-of-michael-leonard\/\">Michael Leonard<\/a>. I\u2019d only been open ten minutes and a woman started having a go and saying it\u2019s filth. What I found fascinating is she\u2019d walked past a whole span of female nudes. I think society is just immune to female nudity. People don\u2019t see it. If you take this to the straight world of an art fair, it provokes reactions other dealers don\u2019t get.
