I don&#8217;t know what Ernst page Sinker is referring to but I made the connection between an Ernst collage and Tenniel&#8217;s drawing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2010\/11\/19\/scenes-from-a-carriage\/\">here<\/a> in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 At Wormwoodiana: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/wormwoodiana.blogspot.com\/2021\/06\/36-elevations.html\" target=\"_blank\">Calum Storrie\u2019s <em>36 Elevations<\/em><\/a> is a book of drawings of imaginary architecture, with the emphasis on towers, stairs, ladders, globes, oblique angles, gantries, finials etc.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 At The Quietus: <a href=\"https:\/\/thequietus.com\/articles\/30063-don-cherry\" target=\"_blank\">Jennifer Lucy Allen<\/a> on The Strange World of&#8230;Don Cherry, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thequietus.com\/articles\/30075-don-cherry-the-summer-house-sessions-organic-music-theatre-festival-de-jazz-de-chateauvallon-1972-review\" target=\"_blank\">Dustin Krcatovich<\/a> on Don and Moki Cherry&#8217;s Organic Music Theatre.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Call it the new orthodoxy of the digital middlebrow, \u201cthe rise of safely empowering stories with likeable protagonists who move through short sentence after short sentence towards uplifting conclusions in which virtue is rewarded.\u201d The laudable goal of increasing the diversity of literary voices has somehow morphed into a series of purity tests designed to ensure that any artistic representation ticks the same boxes as its ostensible author. \u201cOn this,\u201d Tyree writes, \u201cconservative religious evangelicals secretly agree with their puritanical secularist enemies on a censorious attitude and checklist approach to art as either \u2018acceptable\u2019 or \u2018offensive\u2019 to whatever program one happens to prefer for cleansing all vileness from the world.\u201d The result?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[A]rt is increasingly viewed by both the right and the left as a sub-branch of medicine, therapy, hygiene, or good manners. Art is no longer that which tells us the truth but rather that which makes us feel better\u2014a deflated ideology that is spawning a sort of unofficial school of palatability.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And this, I fear, is what\u2019s afflicting many of my students&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lareviewofbooks.org\/article\/an-antidote-to-orthodoxy\" target=\"_blank\">Justin St. Clair<\/a> reviewing The Counterforce: Thomas Pynchon\u2019s Inherent Vice by JM Tyree.
