I&#8217;ve used the artist&#8217;s full name (or his Earth name, if you prefer) in the title of this one to distinguish Moebius the comic artist and illustrator from Dieter Moebius of Cluster, Harmonia, et al. As with Harry Clarke, it&#8217;s taken a long time for Discogs to compile a substantial collection of these covers, and the catalogue there is still incomplete thanks to a lack of credits on some of the sleeves. Unlike other artists whose cover work tends to be a repurposing of existing art many of the Giraud\/Moebius covers were created for the albums on which they appear.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/moebius01.jpg\" alt=\"moebius01.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>7 Colts Pour Schmoll (1968) by Eddy Mitchell.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/moebius02.jpg\" alt=\"moebius02.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An album by a prolific French rock&#8217;n&#8217;roller. Giraud (as he was credited here) was no doubt hired on the strength of his <em>Blueberry<\/em> strips.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/moebius03.jpg\" alt=\"moebius03.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Blueberry (1973) by Dadi.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And speaking of <em>Blueberry<\/em>\u2026 Jean Giraud drew the adventures of Jean-Michel Charlier&#8217;s Western anti-hero for 15 years under the name &#8220;Gir&#8221;. The other covers were by Philippe Druillet, Jean Sol\u00e9 and an artist unidentified on the link above but it looks to me like the work of Philippe Caza. I&#8217;ve got most of the music but I&#8217;d buy these for the covers alone.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/moebius08.jpg\" alt=\"moebius08.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Futur Fiction Fantastique (1977) by Guy Beart.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/moebius09.jpg\" alt=\"moebius09.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/moebius10.jpg\" alt=\"moebius10.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Les Ma\u00eetres Du Temps (1982) by Various Artists.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ren\u00e9 Laloux&#8217;s animated science-fiction film was designed by Moebius and features a great score by Jean-Pierre Bourtayre, Pierre Tardy and Christian Zanesi. There doesn&#8217;t seem to have been a full soundtrack album, however.
