(Not the only woman, however; in Europe we had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2013\/07\/16\/the-art-of-marijke-koger\/\">Marijke Koger<\/a>.) And RIP to illustrator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/2020\/feb\/03\/tom-adams-obituary\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Adams<\/a>, an artist whose exceptional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/groups\/339541@N25\/pool\/\" target=\"_blank\">covers for novels by Agatha Christie<\/a> are only one part of a long and varied career.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/diamandagalas.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-litanies-of-satan\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Litanies Of Satan<\/em><\/a> (1982), the short but uncompromising debut album by Diamanda Gal\u00e1s, is reissued on Gal\u00e1s&#8217;s own label later this month. Further albums from her remarkable back catalogue will follow. Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OBeTXiTZbCc\" target=\"_blank\">video of Gal\u00e1s performing <em>The Litanies Of Satan<\/em> in 1985<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;Scorsese is amazed that United Artists didn\u2019t touch one frame of <em>Raging Bull<\/em>, since it\u2019s the first time in his life as a feature director that this has apparently occurred.&#8221; In 1981 Derek Malcolm talked to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2020\/feb\/14\/raging-bull-punch-in-scorsese-ring-cycle-1981\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Scorsese<\/a> about his reasons for making a boxing picture.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;\u2026in a post-AIDS world, its scenes of mass male-on-male decadence evoke a sense of the spiritual: Not to put so blunt a phrase on it, but the majority of the men we see in\u00a0<em>Cruising<\/em>&#8216;s bars would likely die within the next decade, victims of a very heterosexual genocide of neglect. These are blurred, melancholic memories locked forever within\u00a0<em>Cruising<\/em>&#8216;s celluloid; a phantasmagoria of men whose liberation was not legislatively delivered, but recovered in the privacy of leather bars and cruising joints. The film&#8217;s overt sexuality makes it hard to escape a sense of catastrophic loss.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/thequietus.com\/articles\/27821-cruising-40-anniversary\" target=\"_blank\">Jack King<\/a> on William Friedkin&#8217;s Cruising<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2022 The Pet Shop Boys&#8217; eccentric feature film, <em>It Couldn&#8217;t Happen Here<\/em> (1988), is released <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.bfi.org.uk\/pre-order-it-couldn-t-happen-here-limited-dual-format-edition.html\" target=\"_blank\">on blu-ray and DVD<\/a> in June.
