Many of <a href=\"https:\/\/artuk.org\/discover\/artworks\/search\/actor:newton-algernon-cecil-18801968\/page\/2\" target=\"_blank\">Algernon Cecil Newton<\/a>&#8216;s paintings possess the same stillness, and also depict the parts of urban Britain that are usually shunned as artistic subjects\u2014in the case of canals, the literal backwaters\u2014but Wade&#8217;s paintings are even more depopulated, silent and still. Henry Birks discusses Wade&#8217;s life and work <a href=\"https:\/\/artuk.org\/discover\/stories\/cool-calm-and-collected-the-landscapes-of-maurice-wade\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, noting that the artist painted over 300 landscapes.
