I missed the announcement of Popovic&#8217;s death <a href=\"http:\/\/www.b92.net\/eng\/news\/society.php?yyyy=2016&amp;mm=08&amp;dd=12&amp;nav_id=98885\" target=\"_blank\">last year<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/theawl.com\/the-radical-grace-of-gengoroh-tagame-450eb38a7a90\" target=\"_blank\">Bryan Washington<\/a> on the radical grace of Gengoroh Tagame: <em>My Brother\u2019s Husband<\/em> and the tradition of gay manga. Where <em>bara<\/em> artists are concerned, I favour the work of Mentaiko Itto. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brunogmuender.com\/en\/catalogue\/product\/priapus-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bruno Gm\u00fcnder<\/a> recently published a collection in English.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 At <a href=\"http:\/\/madrotter-treasure-hunt.blogspot.co.uk\/2017\/07\/post-punk-from-old-tapes.html\" target=\"_blank\">madrotter-treasure-hunt<\/a>: Post punk from old tapes; &#8220;Some live recordings from concerts in Holland from Charles Hayward and from This Heat, Metabolist, Pere Ubu, Holger Hiller&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/denniscooperblog.com\/mine-for-yours-my-favorite-fiction-poetry-non-fiction-film-art-and-internet-of-2017-so-far\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dennis Cooper<\/a>\u2018s favourite fiction, poetry, non-fiction, film, music, art &amp; internet of 2017 so far. (Thanks again for the nod to this blog!)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The Weird and the Eerie<\/em> is an evocative and carefully-written short study in cultural aesthetics. Far from the familiar line-up of vampires, zombies, and demons, Fisher\u2019s eclectic examples speak directly to one of the central themes of the horror genre: the limits of human knowledge, the metamorphic shapes of fear, and the blurriness of boundaries of all types. His simple conceptual distinction quickly gives way to reversals, permutations, and complications, ultimately refusing any notion of a monstrous or alien unhumanness \u201cout there\u201d; with Fisher, the unhuman is more likely to reside within the human itself (or as Lovecraft might write it, \u201cthe unhuman is discovered to reside <em>within the human itself<\/em>\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Many books on the horror genre are concerned with providing answers, using varieties of taxonomy and psychology to provide a therapeutic application to \u201cour\u201d lives, helping us to cathartically purge collective anxieties and fears. For Fisher, the emphasis is more on questions, questions that target the vanity and presumptuousness of human culture, questions regarding human consciousness elevating itself above all else, questions concerning the presumed sovereignty of the species at whatever cost \u2013 perhaps questions it\u2019s better not to pose, at the risk of undermining the entire endeavour to begin with.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boundary2.org\/2017\/06\/eugene-thacker-weird-eerie-and-monstrous-a-review-of-the-weird-and-the-eerie-by-mark-fisher\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eugene Thacker<\/a> reviewing <a href=\"http:\/\/repeaterbooks.com\/books\/the-weird-and-the-eerie-mark-fisher\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Weird and the Eerie<\/a> by Mark Fisher.
