Not so the recommendations at <a href=\"https:\/\/strangeflowers.wordpress.com\/2017\/01\/13\/17-plus-books-for-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\">Strange Flowers<\/a> which also includes links to forthcoming events such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guggenheim.org\/exhibition\/mystical-symbolism-the-salon-de-la-rosecroix-in-paris-1892-1897\" target=\"_blank\">this exhibition of Symbolist art<\/a> at the Guggenheim, New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bries.be\/briesspace\" target=\"_blank\">Some Ceremonies are Better than Others<\/a>, an\u00a0exhibition\u00a0of sound objects and drawings by Matthias K\u00f6nig &amp; Ibrahim R. Ineke inspired by Arthur Machen&#8217;s <em>The White People<\/em>, at The Bries Space, Borgerhout, Belgium, from 21st January. Previously: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2015\/09\/01\/ibrahim-inekes-the-white-people\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ineke&#8217;s comic-strip adaptation<\/a> of the Machen story.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;These must-reads explore Dada, Futurism, Surrealism, and the art of opposition,&#8221; says <a href=\"http:\/\/www.villagevoice.com\/arts\/these-must-reads-explore-dada-futurism-surrealism-and-the-art-of-opposition-9547260\" target=\"_blank\">Carol Cooper<\/a>. One of the titles under discussion is the Bruce Sterling book I designed and illustrated last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2016\/11\/16\/pirate-utopia-by-bruce-sterling\/\"><em>Pirate Utopia<\/em><\/a>. Sterling talked to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2017\/01\/geeks-guide-bruce-sterling\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Wired<\/em><\/a> about the book and its relation to the present moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/repeaterbooks.com\/uncategorised\/mark-fisher-1968-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\">RIP Mark Fisher<\/a>, a cultural theorist whose death was announced just as extracts from his latest book, <em>The Weird and the Eerie<\/em>, were beginning to appear. One of those extracts is at <a href=\"http:\/\/thequietus.com\/articles\/21524-mark-fisher-weird-eerie-kubrick-tarkovsky-nolan-review\" target=\"_blank\">The Quietus<\/a>.
