The Neatorama people don&#8217;t seem aware that the name of the lamp refers to <em>Fever in Urbicande<\/em> (1985), a comic book by Fran\u00e7ois Schuiten and Beno\u00eet Peeters, and the second volume in the masterful <em>Cit\u00e9s Obscures<\/em> series.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"urbicande1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/urbicande1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Fever in Urbicand: Urbatect Eugen Robick ponders the properties of the strange cube which is invulnerable yet able to grow through solid materials.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The mysterious para-dimensional cube and its effects on the divided city of Urbicande <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2009\/09\/15\/la-fievre-durbicande-by-schuiten-peeters\/\">have been described here already<\/a>. <em>Fever in Urbicande<\/em> is my favourite of the core stories by Schuiten and Peeters, and it seems to be one of the more popular of Schuiten&#8217;s creations to judge by the lamp and some of the spin-off works that follow.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"urbicande4.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/urbicande4.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Fever in Urbicand: Several months later, and the cube has burgeoned into a city-spanning &#8220;Network&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"principle.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/principle.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Sedimental Journey (1985) by Peter Principle.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I mentioned this solo album by Tuxedomoon&#8217;s bass player in the earlier Urbicande post.
