This kind of setting is now almost commonplace in oneiric fantasy and horror films, the most recent example being the distinctly un-oneiric <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2692250\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb<\/em><\/a> (2014).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"escher5.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/escher5.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Commonplace they may be but Escher&#8217;s stairs are seldom as carefully rendered as in this scene from <em>I, Roommate<\/em> (1999), an episode of <em>Futurama<\/em>.
