Cover art by Dieter Moebius.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 RIP Dieter Moebius: one half of Cluster (with Hans-Joachim Roedelius), one third of Harmonia (with Roedelius and Michael Rother), and collaborator with many other musicians, including Brian Eno and Conny Plank. Geeta Dayal, who <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.frieze.com\/interview-dieter-moebius\/?curator=MusicREDEF\" target=\"_blank\">interviewed Moebius<\/a> for <em>Frieze<\/em> in 2012, chose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/musicblog\/2015\/jul\/22\/dieter-moebius-five-classic-recordings\" target=\"_blank\">five favourite recordings<\/a>. From 2008: <a href=\"http:\/\/strangeattractor.co.uk\/further\/cosmic-outriders-the-music-of-cluster-harmonia\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cosmic Outriders: the music of Cluster and Harmonia<\/a> by Mark Pilkington. At the Free Music Archive: <a href=\"http:\/\/freemusicarchive.org\/music\/Harmonia\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harmonia<\/a> playing at ATP, New York in 2008. Live recordings of Cluster in the 1970s have always been scarce but in 1977 they played a droning set at the Metz Science-Fiction Festival, a performance that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iNlX_y0cRdc\" target=\"_blank\">broadcast on FM radio<\/a> (the Eno credit there seems to be an error).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cI\u2019ve since had the feeling that, if the attacks against <em>The Satanic Verses<\/em> had taken place today, these people would not have defended me, and would have used the same arguments against me, accusing me of insulting an ethnic and cultural minority.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2015\/jul\/23\/salman-rushdie-on-islam-we-have-learned-the-wrong-lessons\" target=\"_blank\">Salman Rushdie<\/a> on the fallout from the <em>Charlie Hebdo<\/em> killings.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;The effect of these memories is to make you think you know the film better than you do, and wonder what it\u2019s like actually to sit down and watch it.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lrb.co.uk\/v37\/n15\/michael-wood\/at-the-movies\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Wood<\/a> on rewatching Orson Welles&#8217; <em>Touch of Evil<\/em> (1958). It has its political dimensions; I\u2019m very fond of the dwarf and I\u2019m very pleased that George [R R Martin], who\u2019s a good friend, has had such a huge success. But ultimately it\u2019s a soap opera. In order to have success on that scale, you have to obey certain rules.
