It didn\u2019t matter what it was; if it sounded interesting, or I could make it interesting, I\u2019d go for it.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/2012\/06\/tod-dockstader\/\" target=\"_blank\">Geeta Dayal<\/a> talked to Dockstader for <em>Wired<\/em> in 2012. Dockstader&#8217;s film credits included Fellini&#8217;s <em>Satyricon<\/em> and Tom and Jerry cartoons. He also wrote the story for one of the latter, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymotion.com\/video\/x2ecckh_tom-and-jerry-mouse-into-space_fun\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Mouse into Space<\/em><\/a>, in 1962. <a href=\"http:\/\/ubu.com\/sound\/dockstader.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ubuweb<\/a> has some early Dockstader recordings.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;&#8230;anyone who has ever sat in a cafe, or in the bath, with a paperback owes a debt to Aldus and the small, cleanly designed editions of the secular classics he called <em>libelli portatiles<\/em>, or portable little books.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/02\/27\/arts\/design\/a-grolier-club-tribute-to-the-printer-aldus-manutius.html?ref=design&amp;_r=3\" target=\"_blank\">Jennifer Schuessler<\/a> on Aldus Manutius, and the roots of the paperback.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;At Chernobyl, we made &#8216;the world\u2019s first radioactive nature preserve.&#8217; We made black rain. We made the Red Forest, which was green when the day began, and is dead.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/therumpus.net\/2015\/02\/the-long-shadow-of-chernobyl-by-gerd-ludwig\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Margaret Alvarado<\/a> reviews <em>The Long Shadow Of Chernobyl<\/em> by Gerd Ludwig.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Prison was often the fate of those caught circulating <em>samizdat<\/em> in the Soviet Union\u2014not only the &#8220;high&#8221; <em>samizdat<\/em> such as Solzhenitsyn, but the crude and lowly joke books as well. The official rationale for the prohibition was in context no less reasonable than the rationale given more recently for condemning <em>Charlie Hebdo<\/em> or R. Crumb. There is always a perception that the very serious project of perfecting society is being undermined.
