Albert Weisgerber (1878\u20131915) was more of a fine artist than a jobbing illustrator\u2014Alfred Kubin was a friend\u2014but some of his drawings appeared in <em>Jugend<\/em> magazine as well as this book. The heavy shading and blocks of colour are reminiscent of the <a href=\"http:\/\/illustrationart.blogspot.co.uk\/2011\/02\/beggarstaff-brothers.html\" target=\"_blank\">Beggarstaffs<\/a>, while the illustration choices don&#8217;t avoid the darker moments of the tales, as with the picture of Gretel pushing the witch into the oven. <a href=\"http:\/\/50watts.com\/Albert-Weisgerber\" target=\"_blank\">50 Watts<\/a> has some of\u00a0Weisgerber&#8217;s other drawings.
