{"id":15648,"date":"2014-08-26T01:35:36","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T00:35:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/?p=15648"},"modified":"2014-08-26T01:35:36","modified_gmt":"2014-08-26T00:35:36","slug":"the-voyage-of-the-pequod","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2014\/08\/26\/the-voyage-of-the-pequod\/","title":{"rendered":"The Voyage of the Pequod"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/exhibits\/treasures\/images\/1831.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"henry1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/henry1.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>American illustrator Everett Henry (1893\u20131961) created several maps based on classic American novels but <a href=\"http:\/\/explorepahistory.com\/displayimage.php?imgId=1-2-1DE0\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Virginian<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/memory.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/map_item.pl?data=\/service\/gmd\/gmd404\/g4042\/g4042m\/ct003556.jp2&amp;style=gmd&amp;itemLink=r?ammem\/gmd:@field(NUMBER+@band(g4042m+ct003556))&amp;title=The%20adventures%20of%20Huckleberry%20Finn%20from%20the%20book%20by%20Mark%20Twain%20%3a%20[Mississippi%20River]%20%2f%20portrait%20map%20by%20Everett%20Henry.\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn<\/em><\/a> lack the epic, globe-trotting qualities of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/exhibits\/treasures\/images\/1831.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Moby-Dick<\/em><\/a>, one of the few novels where almost every scene takes place in a different part of the world. The linear nature of the voyage also aids Henry&#8217;s design with its graded colours and suitably bloody culmination.
