Cover art by <a href=\"http:\/\/mavadocharon.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mavado Charon<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Drew Daniel&#8217;s latest release as The Soft Pink Truth is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thrilljockey.com\/thrill\/The-Soft-Pink-Truth\/Why-Do-the-Heathen-Rage\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Why Do The Heathen Rage?<\/em><\/a>, a witty electronic riposte to the often reactionary attitudes of black metal music and the people who create it. (The album is dedicated to Magne Andreassen, a gay man stabbed to death by the drummer from Emperor.) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2014\/jul\/10\/black-metal-dance-soft-pink-truth-drew-daniel-why-do-the-heathen-rage\" target=\"_blank\">Dorian Lynskey<\/a> talked to Daniel about queering the metal world, as did <a href=\"http:\/\/www.factmag.com\/2014\/07\/07\/i-dont-think-ive-ever-had-more-anxiety-about-a-record-drew-daniel-talks-burzum-blurred-lines-and-tackling-black-metals-issues-head-on-with-the-soft-pink-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\">Angus Finlayson<\/a> at FACT. Daniel&#8217;s project has been receiving press <a href=\"http:\/\/noisey.vice.com\/blog\/the-soft-pink-truth-interview-why-do-the-heathen-rage-cover-art\" target=\"_blank\">everywhere<\/a> but you wouldn&#8217;t know it to read US\/UK gay news sites where the music coverage is relentlessly narrow and insular. To date, only <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buttmagazine.com\/blog\/tunes\/ready-to-fuck\/\" target=\"_blank\">BUTT magazine<\/a> has mentioned <em>Why Do The Heathen Rage?<\/em> but then BUTT have always stood apart from their parochial contemporaries. Never mind, here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.towleroad.com\/2014\/07\/gay-iconography-cant-get-kylie-minogue-out-of-our-heads.html\" target=\"_blank\">another fucking article<\/a> about &#8220;petite pop princess&#8221; Kylie Minogue.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;By the letter of the law, <em>Ulysses<\/em> was obscene. Obviously, gratuitously, relentlessly obscene.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookslut.com\/features\/2014_07_020728.php\" target=\"_blank\">Josh Cook<\/a> on censorship and dangerous books. One of my own dangerous publications, the fifth issue of the Lord Horror comics series,<em> Hard Core Horror<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.savoy.abel.co.uk\/HTML\/censor.html\" target=\"_blank\">declared obscene<\/a> in a UK court in 1995), received a very belated review at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tcj.com\/this-week-in-comics-7914-hell-eternal\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Comics Journal<\/em><\/a>. More censorship: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2014\/jul\/11\/judy-blume-interview-forever-writer-children-young-adults\" target=\"_blank\">Judy Bloom<\/a> on the perennial panics in US school libraries. Lest we feel superior to American prudery, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2014\/jul\/07\/painting-pornographic-pubic-hair-outrage\" target=\"_blank\">Leena McCall&#8217;s painting<\/a> of a semi-naked woman caused some consternation in a London gallery last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 &#8220;Over and over, we\u2019re told that nobody buys [compact discs] anymore.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/grantland.com\/features\/the-case-for-cds\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steven Hyden<\/a> on the latest obituaries being written for a music format. Ten years ago the death of vinyl was being confidently predicted: &#8220;The physical presence of the popular song is gone,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2003\/aug\/01\/2\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Morley<\/a> declared.
