{"id":13316,"date":"2013-02-08T02:34:39","date_gmt":"2013-02-08T02:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/?p=13316"},"modified":"2013-02-08T02:34:39","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T02:34:39","slug":"underground-labyrinths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/2013\/02\/08\/underground-labyrinths\/","title":{"rendered":"Underground labyrinths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"wallinger.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/wallinger.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Labyrinth (Westminster) by Mark Wallinger.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A mandatory post, this one, seeing as how it combines two continual sources of interest: labyrinths and the London Underground transport system. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfl.gov.uk\/corporate\/media\/newscentre\/27158.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Transport for London<\/a> commissioned artist Mark Wallinger to create something for the 150th birthday celebrations of the Tube, the result being a series of 270 different labyrinth designs, one for each of the capital&#8217;s stations. Needless to say, I like the idea, and it&#8217;s been interesting to see that some of\u00a0Wallinger&#8217;s designs hark back to earlier labyrinths.
