If you have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.londonlovesbusiness.com\/property\/kensington-roof-gardens-on-sale-for-200m\/4620.article\" target=\"_blank\">a spare \u00a3200m<\/a> you may be interested in buying them once Richard Branson&#8217;s lease expires.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One of my favourite things in <em>Mojo<\/em> magazine was a list by Jon Savage of 100 great psychedelic singles (50 from the UK, 50 from the US). This week he presented a list of the <a href=\"The 20 best glam-rock songs of all time\" target=\"_blank\">20 best glam-rock songs of all time<\/a>. For the record, <em>Blockbuster<\/em> by The Sweet was the first single I bought so I&#8217;ve always favoured that song over <em>Ballroom Blitz<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <em>The Alluring Art of Margaret Brundage<\/em> is a forthcoming book by J. David Spurlock about the <em>Weird Tales<\/em> cover artist. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2013\/01\/the-revenge-of-margaret-brundage-the-queen-of-the-pulps\/272715\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steven Heller<\/a> looks at her life (I&#8217;d no idea she knew Djuna Barnes) while <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/5980766\/the-woman-whose-pulp-art-was-too-sexy-for-public-decency\" target=\"_blank\">io9<\/a> has some of her paintings. Laughton\u2019s great bulk swims into pools of scalding light out of greater or lesser shoals of darkness like a vast monster of the deep, a great black whale. The movie haunts you like a bad dream. Mann did not try to give you a sense of the past; instead, <em>Paracelsus<\/em> looks as if it had been made in the Middle Ages \u2013 the gargoyle faces, bodies warped with ague, gaunt with famine, a claustrophobic sense of a limited world, of chronic, cramped unfreedom.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lrb.co.uk\/v11\/n20\/angela-carter\/the-merchant-of-shadows\" target=\"_blank\">The Merchant of Shadows<\/a> (1989) by Angela Carter. There&#8217;s more of her writing in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lrb.co.uk\/contributors\/angela-carter\" target=\"_blank\">LRB Archive<\/a>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2022 Television essayist Jonathan Meades was back on our screens this week.
