The Internet Archive has several books reprinting the Dance of Death by Hans Holbein the Younger (1497\u20131543). These samples are from <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/details\/danceofdeath00holb\" target=\"_blank\">an 1892 edition<\/a>. There&#8217;s also a complete copy of the very rare original printing, <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/details\/lessimulachreshi1538holb\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Les Simulachres &amp; Historiees Faces De La Mort, Autant Elegamme[n]t Pourtraictes, Que Artificiellement Imagin\u00e9es<\/em><\/a> (1538), but the reproductions aren&#8217;t as good as the later copies. Later this month the Wellcome Collection in London hosts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wellcomecollection.org\/whats-on\/exhibitions\/death-a-self-portrait.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Death: A Self-portrait<\/em><\/a>, an exhibition of <em>memento mori<\/em> and related art from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardharrisartcollection.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Harris collection<\/a>. They don&#8217;t say whether Holbein will be included but I&#8217;d be surprised if he wasn&#8217;t, these images of popes, kings and paupers being hauled to the grave by grinning skeletons have been reproduced endlessly.
