Seen briefly in yesterday’s film about Ren\u00e9 Magritte were some of the artist’s 77 illustrations created for a 1948 edition of Lautr\u00e9amont’s Les Chants de Maldoror<\/em> published by \u00c9ditions “La Boetie”, Brussels. The examples here are from various auction sites, and they can’t be counted among\u00a0Magritte’s best work which probably explains why they’re not reproduced very often. Salvador Dal\u00ed’s set of engravings<\/a> for a 1934 edition were appended last year to a new English translation by RJ Dent for Solar Books<\/a>. And from French publisher La Baconniere there’s this recent edition<\/a> with a set of fresh illustrations by TagliaMani<\/a> (also here<\/a>).<\/p>\n
