Jind\u0159ich \u0160tyrsk\u00fd is a Czech artist best remembered today for his collages but he was also a painter, <a href=\"http:\/\/cafeirreal.alicewhittenburg.com\/review4b.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a photographer<\/a> and a publisher of erotic material. He illustrated and published <a href=\"http:\/\/books.simsreed.com\/find_books.php?all=1&amp;stk=36830\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Czech edition of Lautr\u00e9amont&#8217;s <em>Maldoror<\/em><\/a>, and helped found the <em>Surrealismus<\/em> review in Prague.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/styrsky2-big.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.johncoulthart.com\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/styrsky2.jpg\" alt=\"styrsky2.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Bathe (1934).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Regular readers won&#8217;t be surprised to hear that I&#8217;ve liked \u0160tyrsk\u00fd&#8217;s collages for years, many of which subject sentimental Victorian illustration to processes of violent transmutation. Ever since seeing <em>The Bathe<\/em> I&#8217;ve found it impossible to look at one of Renoir&#8217;s fleshy nudes without wondering what happened to the exposed viscera. <a href=\"http:\/\/weimarart.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/jindrich-styrsky-i-heard-secrets-in.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Weimar<\/a> covered \u0160tyrsk\u00fd&#8217;s career in some detail last year so that&#8217;s a good place to go for further information.
