Sinister silhouettes

One of a series of creepy children’s illustrations by Alexander Ovchinnikov which look like the work of pioneering animator Lotte Reiniger pushed into a darker world. Ovchinnikov’s Behance portfolio has a similar set mixing silhouettes with photography.

Fun work. For anyone not already familiar with it, the African American artist Kara Walker is worth checking out for a similar approach but differerent fantasy subject: over the top antebellum horrors (and surreal comedy). Really enjoy your website Mr. Coulthart. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I don’t think I’d seen Kara Walker’s work before. Splendid stuff but then I’ve always liked silhouette art, even done some myself on occasion.

Thank you for bringing Lotte Reiniger forward. She reminds me of Franklin Booth and his story. Just amazing proliferation of hand-rendered work, both! (He-pen and ink). You have a lovely site, such depth and scope. Really appreciate that. Betty
